Private Lessons

Individualized Music Study

For the young adolescent or adult, the beginner or advanced, it is here that you can find tailored-for-you lessons from our music specialists for the:

Violin
Flute
Clarinet
Saxophone
Trumpet
Guitar
Voice
Piano
Yamaha Electone organ
and other instruments, depending on demand

In this setting, the goals are set by the student with the instructor's help. Typical goals include:

Acquiring beginner or intermediate musicianship skills, in a private one-on-one environment, at a pace selected by the student
Acquiring or maintaining the performance skills expected of high school honors orchestral or band musicians, or even of college level musicians
Preparation for Certificate of Merit Exams
Preparation for advanced levels of the Yamaha Grade Exams
Advanced composition work (usually reserved for advanced Yamaha Music Education Systems students and graduates), which may produce entries into the Yamaha JOC Jamboree Concert program, or other composition contests
Advanced reportoire work (usually reserved for advanced Yamaha Music Education Systems students and graduates), which can help prepare entries for the Yamaha JOC Jamboree Concert program and other competitive performance programs Private lessons are either 30-, 45-, or 60-minute sessions, meeting 44 times during our regular school year.

Supplement to Group Lessons

Students enrolled in the beginners' group lessons are not required to have private lessons, although a limited number of private lessons may be appropriate occasionally, such as when a student has missed several class meetings, or has enrolled in the program several weeks late, and needs to catch up.

For students enrolled in the more advanced group lessons, there are weekly private lessons designed especially to complement the group lessons. These private lessons help ensure that the student develops a mastery of the priciples taught in the group class, and are especially important as the group class lessons becomes progessively more advanced and fast-paced. In addtion to reinforcing the material taught in the group class, the private lessons also develop the student's repertoire performance skills, for repertoire sharing in the group meetings and at recitals.

Group Lessons

Kindermusik Our Time™

Age:	18 months - 3 years	This course is fun for you and your toddler! While exploring music and movement, your child will also refine motor skills and expand their language and social skills. The in-class activities include listening, voice, movement and rhythm fun. Using their bodies and fun, safe rhythm instruments, these young children learn basic rhythm and an appreciation for music.
Prerequisite:	None
Course Duration:	15 lesson segments
Parent Participation:	Required in class
Class Meetings:	One 45-minute class per week

Music Wonderland

Age:	3-years old	This fun-filled program carries out the Yamaha Music Education System concepts of group learning at a very young level. Students in this class will participate in such activities as ear training, voice, and rhythm fun. Keyboard and percussion fundamentals are introduced. And the body exercises are done to singing and music make this class especially fun - for the students and parents!

Junior Music Course

Starting Age:	4 - 5 years old	This two-year course is especially designed to create an active interest in music for young beginners while providing the student a solid foundation for more advanced music study. Students attend class with an adult and are introduced to solfege, singing skills, rhythm constructs, note reading on the five-line staff, harmony and ensemble musicianship with both hands on the keyboard.

Young Musicians Course

Starting Age:	6 - 8 years old	During this two-year program, children participate in musicianship activities that promote their indpendence, creativity and self-expression. The class activities that foster this growth in the young musician include: Singing Ear Training Keyboard techniques Individual repertoire performances Ensemble performances Keyboard harmony studies Sight singing & playing Music theory studies

Junior Extension Course

Starting Age:	6 - 7 years old	Building on the skills and musicality developed in the Junior Music Course, and capitalizing on the physical, mental and emotional development of the 6-7 year olds, the Junior Extension Course will: Build on keyboard technique and music reading skills Nurture musical sensitivity so that it becomes an integral part of the child's performance Develop strong ensemble skills Encourage self expression by providing opportunities for musical creativity

Junior Advanced Course

Starting Age:	8 - 9 years old	The Junior Advanced Course will build on the musical skills acquired in the Junior Extension Course, and apply them to keyboard and ensemble performance. The Junior Advanced Course will: Develop performance skills on the piano or Electone in the private lessons Develop creative ability in musical arrangement and improvisation Continue to emphasieze hearing, reading, writing, singing and ensemble skills as part of a broader musical foundation

Junior Special Advanced Course

Starting Age:	6 - 7 years	The Junior Special Advanced Course will build on the skills and musicality developed in the Junior Music Course, and apply them to keyboard performance and creativity. It is an accelerated course for students who demonstrate advanced capabilities. The Junior Special Advanced Course will: Develop performance skills on the piano or Electone in the private lessons Develop improvisation and composition skills Emphasize hearing, reading, writing, theory, singing and ensemble skills as part of a broader musical foundations
Prerequisite:	Completion of Junior Music Course and Successful Audition

Piano Musicians Course

Starting Age:	8 - 10 years old	The Piano Musicians Course will build on the skills developed in the Young Musicians Course, adding more advanced keyboard performance skills and creativity. The Piano Musicians Course will: Build on keyboard technique and music reading skills Develop a stronger sense of rhythm and syncopation Develop strong ensemble skills Introduce more advanced music theory Encourage self-expression by providing opportunities for musical creativity

Basic Keyboard for Teens and Adults

Age:	Age 9 and older	A Wonderful way for the older beginner to start. Basic muisic and keybaord playing is taught through lessons on the correct hand and finger positions, note and chord reading, and on understanding key, rhythm and harmony. A great start for a beginner or any instrument! This program can continue to six eight-week semesters.
